Hanan Barghouthi

Hanan Barghouthi

Contemporary visual artist (born 2002, Ramallah) based in Ramallah, she holds a BA in Contemporary Visual Arts from Birzeit University (2024).

Her work draws from the depth of human experience in the face of social and political challenges. In her art, she addresses the complex relationship between women and society, exploring the contradictions between individual and collective identity and how women are evaluated through the lens of society. Her art goes beyond visual documentation to become a philosophical expression of women’s internal and external struggle, and an embodiment of their suffering under the pressures of social expectations. Her work also goes further to highlight collective suffering, such as her project that deals with the suffering of Gazan fishermen under the occupation.

She uses multiple media in her expressions, from drawing and performance to video, sculpture and photography, to create an artistic vision characterized by multiplicity and interconnectedness, reflecting a tense reality between hope and disappointment, and inviting us to reflect on the relationship between the individual and society under occupation and oppression. Participated in a group exhibition with Reform Foundation “House of Creativity” in Ramallah (2016), and a group exhibition for graduate students at Birzeit University Museum (2024).
