Four galleries, in Jerusalem, Ramallah and Bethlehem, will open their doors to host a unique and enriching art experience of one of the most influential Palestinian artists. This is the first retrospective exhibit for artist Samir Salameh. The artworks will be displayed in the showrooms of Zawyeh Art Gallery and Gallery One in Ramallah, Palestinian Art Court- Al Hoash in Jerusalem and Bab el Deir Gallery in Bethlehem. The exhibition will include various artworks that reflect the experience of Samir Salameh over those long years since he held his first exhibition in 1963. His first exhibition was held in Dera’a in Syria while Salameh was still an art student, then became a renowned artist travelling from one place to another until he settled in France then in Palestine, both in which he is warmly welcomed.
Samir Salameh has a rich experience that contributed to plastic arts in Palestine and worldwide. His style is dominated by his own language and methods in painting and coloring which he carefully developed with time while learning from his domestic heritage and opening himself to the world with its cultural diversity. Throughout his artistic path, Salameh presented more than seventy solo and group exhibitions hosted in Arab and foreign capitals. His artworks varied between realistic abstraction and lyrical abstraction, with the use of Arabic calligraphy and oriental themes. His works also included calligraphy, watercolor painting, prints and others.
Through this exhibition, we shall try to display all these artistic experiences and developments which the artist went through, since his forced exile as a Palestinian refugee, until his last by-choice exile in Paris, and his recurrent visits to Palestine.
The exhibition will sum up the whole history of the life of the artist. An artist whose language and passion were reflected in the canvas and paper clips, always wrapped up in an ambiguous transparent thread which was like a seal or fingerprint that replaced the famous artist signature in the corner of the painting. Our artist is a magnificent elegant painter, with lines and colors that flow in endless harmony, cursing darkness and celebrating light, shadows, and the sun of the Mediterranean east always present in the horizon.
